Two birds - Arist trading cards

These two little Artist Trading Cards were quick to make, and a lot of fun.

The cards are 300gsm NOT watercolour paper. I cut it to the right size for ATCs – always 3.5 x 2.5 inches.

The birds are from the “Love Birds” stamp set from Woodware. I stamped them with StazOn Jet Black ink.

I strengthened some of the stamped line with a fine Zig Millennium pen.

Next I coloured the birds and the backgrounds using a mixture of Derwent Academy watercolour pencils and Derwent Inktense pencils. The Acadamy pencils are lovely for light washes and flow very nicely when water is added from a waterbrush. The Inktense pencils are (as the name suggest) much more intense and great for building up a bit more colour where needed.

Then I added assorted Zentangle-style doodles on some of the open spaces of the birds using various colours of Stabilo 88 point fineliners. I also added some details with various Sakura Gelly Roll, Souffle and Glaze pens. You can not see in the scans but in real life the images glimmer and have metallic accents.
