I have been a big fan of Craftsy since I first discovered it last year, and have succumbed to buying a nice collection of their great courses.
As someone who enjoys quite a variety of crafts, there has been plenty of knitting, crochet, sewing and other courses to keep me busy.
And now they have added a whole new category of courses to the impressive list.. with a selection of Fine Art classes.
There are six new classes in this initial launch, designed to cover various aspects of the drawing and painting skills.
This was the first course to catch my eye. Perspective is one of those things that just looks wrong when it is wrong, to even the most untrained observer. The principles are surprisingly easy, and once understood will really improve one’s drawings. The course covers the traditional techniques and principles and even includes instructions for making some handy tools.
Scott Gellatly presents this course on colour theory for oil painters. As someone who has always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with colour, this course is high on my wishlist.
Acrylic master, Bennett Vadnais, presents this course on creating landscapes with acrylic paints. Acrylics are a versatile medium, combining the texture and flexibility of oil painting with the faster drying times, cleaner working conditions and economy of water colours. In this course you will learn how to get the most from the medium when producing a variety of types of landscape and architectural forms.
I have to admit that my ventures into watercolour painting are rarely as successful as with other mediums. So I was very interested to see that one of the new courses is hosted by top illustrator, Matt Rota. Top class instruction on getting to grips with the techniques will not only help with portraiture creation, but also other styles.
Charcoal and oils make this a course in very traditional materials and techniques. Learn how to create a charcoal sketch.. the right way! And then go on to use it as the basis of an oil painting.
