OK, I admit it, I am a bit of a fan of Hello Kitty. I also love crocheting amigurumi. So when I spotted this adorable Hello Kitty Crochet book, well, I guess it was inevitable that it would be coming home with me.
This is a small hardbook, 7.25″ square (18.5cms square). It contains patterns for 24 Hello Kitty themed characters. There are also some bonus downloadable extras.
The first part of the book explains what Hello Kitty and amigurumi are, and discusses the supplies and techniques you will need.
There then follows patterns for 24 different characters including Purin the yellow cat, Tuxedosam the snazzy penguin, Keroppi the frog, Badtz-Maru the penguin and more.
The patterns are simple instructions, many using the same basic components. You could easily adapt them to make your own variations.
I think this book would be suitable for someone with basic crochet skills. It is mostly simple stitches. There are photo instructions on how to make a magic ring, change colours and fasten off but you would need to know how to do double crochet and other basic stitches.
The instructions are in American crochet terms, with no “translation” give for UK readers – however the differences are small and easy to remember if you look it up elsewhere. I am used to crocheting “bilingually”.
The book has lots of charming colour photos of finished toys for inspiration.
There are 5 bonus characters and some accessories to download, details at the end of the book!
A charming book for any crocheter who loves Hello Kitty. The finished characters are good likenesses and easy to achieve, even by a newer crafter.
