Title – Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots, and More

Author – Lesley Stanfield
Publisher – Quirk Books
ISBN – 978-1-59474-232-3

I admit that I bought this book because of the cuddly crochet Cthulhu on the front cover! (the green thing at the top right, in you didn’t know) TTCreepyCutePic4

This is a charming little 96 page book with 21 wonderful little creepy-cute amigurumi characters to crochet. All the designs are made with worsted weight (double knitting) yarn and a US size E (3.5mm) crochet hook. They use basic stitches and would be suitable for someone who is quite new to crochet.y

The book starts with information on the tools required and how to assemble the little chaps. The basic body and head instructions are at the back of the book and shared by nearly all the different characters. The patterns use the American terminology, but most non-USA crocheters are familiar with this and should not have problems. If you are not sure you can easily find conversion charts online (it is only a couple of stitches that are called something different on either side of the Atlantic).

The patterns are nice and clear with both step by step written instructions and a clear diagram version too, so you can use whichever you prefer. I like how they always start with a jolly diagram showing what you need to complete the pattern.TTCreepyCutePic2

The characters are simple but recognizable and very cute. It would also not be hard to adapt the patterns to make your own characters too.

Lots of Little Monsters…

The included characters are:

Little red devil
Nosferatu the vampire
Queen vampire
Cthulthu
Skeleton Bride and GroomTTCreepyCutePic1
Medusa the Gorgon
Fuzzy Alien
Cleric
Amazon
Corporate Zombie
Grim Reaper
Trojan
Spartan
Cyber Zombie
Knight
Ninja
Day of the Dead Gal and FellowTTCreepyCutePic3
Monkey (because everyone loves monkeys, apparently)
Robot

The little amigurumis are very cute and would be great for youngsters, as little gifts, mascots and companions. They are small enough to carry around easily.

Summary

This is a great book if you like little amigurumi characters. I am a pretty experienced crocheter, but I am sure this would be great to use if you were quite new to the art, as long as you knew the basic stitches. A great way to use up oddments of yarn too.
